10 May 2005, 12:06  Tokyo stocks end lower on profit taking

Tokyo stocks finished lower Tuesday after investors sold technology blue chips to lock in profits from their recent gains. The U.S. dollar was up against the Japanese yen and the euro. The Nikkei Stock Average of 225 selected issues lost 11.86 points, or 0.11 percent, to close at 11,159.46 points. The index lost 20.85 points, or 0.19 percent, Monday. The dollar was trading at 105.65 yen at 3 p.m. Tuesday, up 0.31 yen from late Monday in Tokyo and above the 105.59 yen it bought in New York later that day. Stocks erased their morning gains and fell into the negative territory as investors sold technology blue chips to lock in profits. The broader TOPIX, which includes all issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's first section, dipped 2.90 points, or 0.25 percent, to 1,149.58 points. The TOPIX gained 1.72 points, or 0.15 percent, the day before.
