Germany's seasonally-adjusted trade surplus widened more than expected to a record 15 billion euros in March as exports grew strongly from the previous month, preliminary Federal Statistics Office data showed on Tuesday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the trade surplus in Europe's largest economy would widen to 13.4 billion euros from February's 13.2 billion euros Exports rose by an adjusted 2.1 percent on the month to 62.7 billion euros, while imports fell by 1.2 percent to 47.7 billion euros, the Office said. Compared with a year ago, exports were up an adjusted 0.9 percent year-on-year, the lowest annual gain since they declined slightly in November 2003. Imports rose 1.8 percent.
