5 April 2005, 11:43  Dollar Strengthens in Asia

The dollar strengthened further on widening interest rate differentials between the United States and Japan, rising to a five-and-a-half-month high above 108.43 yen in Asia.
Crude oil marked a record high of $58.28 a barrel but slipped back to settle at $57.01 on Monday, temporarily easing worries about higher energy costs for firms and weaker consuming spending in the United States.
In Asian trade on Tuesday, crude pulled back further to around $56.78.
