The U.S. dollar rose against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday. Gold prices fell. The euro was quoted at $1.2914, down from $1.2955 late Tuesday. Other dollar rates compared with late Tuesday: --106.20 Japanese yen, up from 106.03 --1.1943 Swiss francs, up from 1.1897 --1.2479 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2469 The British pound was quoted at $1.9001, down from $1.9045. Gold traded in London at $434.10 bid per troy ounce, down from $435.40 late Tuesday. In Zurich the bid price was $434.28, down from $435.43. Gold fell 50 cents in Hong Kong to close at $434.25.
