26 April 2005, 12:32  Dutch April business confidence falls, consumer confidence up

The business confidence indicator for the industrial sector fell in April to minus 0.1 from a positive 1.4 in March, according to seasonally adjusted figures from the Central Bureau for Statistics. The fall was driven largely by deteriorating expectations for lower production and new orders in coming months. The sub-indicator for inventories was unchanged. Meanwhile, the consumer confidence indicator, corrected for seasonal effects, improved to minus 16 from minus 21 in March, the CBS said, noting this was the highest level in three years. Consumer opinion on the economic climate improved to minus 8 from minus 18 a month earlier, while the 'willingness-to-buy' indicator rose month-on-month to minus 20 from minus 23.
