22 April 2005, 09:41  Tokyo stocks rose Friday morning after shares surged on Wall Street

The dollar was down slightly against the yen but higher versus the euro. The Nikkei Stock Average of 225 selected issues rose 108.67 points, or 0.99 percent, to 11093.06 at midday. The index lost 104.19 points, or 0.94 percent, on Thursday. The dollar was trading at 106.85 yen at 11 a.m. Friday, down 0.12 yen from late Thursday in Tokyo but above the 106.82 yen it bought in New York later that day. The Dow surged 206.24, or 2.06 percent, to 10,218.60, reversing course after a 115-point drop Wednesday, and a 374-point decline last week. In Tokyo, the broader TOPIX, which includes all issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's first section, gained 9.25 points, or 0.82 percent, to 1,132.57 points at midday. In other currencies, the euro fell to $1.3037 late Friday morning from $1.3085 late Thursday and to 139.26 yen from 139.88 yen.
