1 April 2005, 09:58  Yen falls after BOJ tankan weaker than expected

The yen fell against the dollar and euro on Friday after the closely-watched Bank of Japan tankan survey of corporate sentiment came in weaker than expected.
As of 23:55 GMT, the dollar rose to 107.45 yen , compared to 107.15 prior to the release of the data. It fetched 107.15 in late U.S. trade on Thursday, off a five-month peak of 107.70 reached earlier in the week.
The euro firmed to 139.35 yen compared with 138.91 in late New York trade.
The tankan's diffusion index for big manufacturers came in at plus 14 for March, weaker than the market's expectations for plus 23 and compared with plus 22 in December.
