2 March 2005, 15:24  Dollar Rises Against Other Major Currencies, Gold Is Down in Europe

The U.S. dollar rose Wednesday morning against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices fell.
The euro was quoted at $1.3106, down from $1.3188 Tuesday.
Other dollar rates compared with late rates Tuesday included:
104.95 Japanese yen, up from 104.29;
1.1745 Swiss francs, up from 1.1655,
and 1.2426 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2417.
The British pound was quoted at $1.9089, down from $1.9196.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $429.15 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, down from $431.10 on Tuesday.
In Zurich, the bid was $428.90, down from $431.30.
Gold fell $4.40 in Hong Kong to close at $430.05.
Silver opened in London at $7.14 bid per troy ounce, down from $7.22.
