11 March 2005, 16:53  Dollar Slips on U.S. Trade Data

The dollar fell against the euro on Friday after a report showed the U.S. trade deficit for January was wider than expected.
The hefty trade gap is a persistent weight on the dollar.
The U.S. January trade deficit widened to $58.27 billion, above economists' estimates for $56.50 billion.
The euro (EUR=) pushed up to around $1.3466 according to data from around $1.3420 shortly before the report and higher than levels late on Thursday in New York.
Against the yen (JPY=) the dollar slipped to 103.85 yen, from around 104.10 yen shortly before the report.
