The U.S. dollar was lower against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday morning. Gold rose.
The euro was quoted at $1.2785, up from $1.2767 Tuesday.
Other dollar rates:
--105.46 Japanese yen, down from 105.83
--1.2185 Swiss francs, down from 1.2215
--1.2468 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2517
The British pound was quoted at $1.8632, up from $1.8565.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $413.20 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, up from $412.20 on Tuesday.
In Zurich the bid price was $412.95, up from $412.05.
Hong Kong's gold market was closed Wednesday for a public holiday.
Silver opened in London at $6.52 bid per troy ounce, unchanged from the previous day's closing price.
