2 February 2005, 16:04  U.S. Dollar Lower Against Other Major Currencies in European Trading; Gold Rises

The U.S. dollar fell Wednesday morning against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices rose.
The euro was quoted at $1.3065, up from $1.3013 late Tuesday.
Other dollar rates compared with late rates Wednesday included:
103.55 Japanese yen, down from 103.93;
1.1879 Swiss francs, down from 1.1938,
and 1.2323 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2421.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8845, up from $1.8792.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $421.90 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, up from $419.80 on Tuesday.
In Zurich the bid price was $421.28, up from $419.75.
Gold rose $1.40 in Hong Kong to close at $422.35.
