17 February 2005, 15:05  U.S. Dollar Slips Against Other Major Currencies in European Trading; Gold Prices Advance

The U.S. dollar fell Thursday morning against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices rose.
The euro was quoted at $1.3060, up from $1.2970 Wednesday.
Other dollar rates compared with late rates Wednesday included:
105.29 Japanese yen, down from 105.52; 1.1856 Swiss francs, down from 1.1940;
and 1.2332 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2446.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8890, up from $1.8865.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $426.60 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, up from $423.75 on Wednesday.
In Zurich the bid was $426.60, up from $423.20.
Gold rose 40 cents in Hong Kong to close at $425.45.
Silver opened in London at $7.23 bid per troy ounce, down from $7.25.
