16 February 2005, 15:21  U.S. Dollar Is Mixed Against Other Major Currencies in European Trading; Gold Prices Fall

The U.S. dollar was mixed Wednesday morning against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices fell in Europe.
The euro was quoted at $1.3019, up from $1.2969 Tuesday.
Other dollar rates compared with late rates Tuesday included:
105.12 Japanese yen, up from 104.79;
1.1879 Swiss francs, down from 1.1948;
1.2330 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2347.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8873, up from $1.8865.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of $424.15 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, down from $425.20 on Tuesday.
In Zurich the bid was $423.90, down from $424.38.
Gold rose 60 cents in Hong Kong to close at $425.05.
Silver opened in London at $7.23 bid per troy ounce, down from $7.27.
