The U.S. dollar rose against other major currencies in European trading Tuesday. Gold fell.
The euro was quoted at $1.3383, down from $1.3483 in New York late Monday. Financial markets in Japan and London were closed Monday for a public holiday.
Other dollar rates compared with late Monday:
--103.65 Japanese yen, up from 102.68
--1.1556 Swiss francs, up from 1.1473
--1.2144 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2071
The British pound was quoted at $1.8941, down from $1.9048.
Gold opened in London at $426.80 bid per troy ounce, down from $438.00 on Friday.
Silver in London was at $6.42 bid per troy ounce, down from $6.80.
