28 January 2005, 16:59  U.S. Dollar Rises Against Most Major Currencies in European Trading; Gold Prices Also Advance

The U.S. dollar rose slightly Friday against most major currencies in European trading. Gold prices also were higher.
The euro was quoted at $1.3050, unchanged from late Thursday.
But it rose to 103.29 Japanese yen from 103.20 yen late Thursday,
and advanced to 1.1849 Swiss francs from 1.1844 Swiss francs.
The dollar also rose to 1.2392 Canadian dollars from 1.2347 late Thursday.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8867, down from $1.8870.
Gold traded in London at $426.40 bid per troy ounce, up from $424.40 late Wednesday.
In Zurich, the bid was $425.70, up from $424.30.
Gold fell 60 cents in Hong Kong to close at $426.15.
Silver traded in London at $6.77 bid per troy ounce, up from $6.73.
