14 January 2005, 15:24  Dollar Up, Gold Down in Europe

The U.S. dollar rose Friday morning against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices fell. The euro traded at $1.3117 Thursday, down from $1.3215 late Thursday.
Other dollar rates compared with late rates Thursday included: 102.61 Japanese yen, up from 102.37; 1.1811 Swiss francs, up from 1.1705, and 1.2094 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2021.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8714, down from $1.8829.
Gold traded in London at $421.70 bid per troy ounce, down from $424.10 on Thursday. In Zurich, the bid price was $421.25, down from $423.23. Gold fell $5.20 in Hong Kong to close at $420.85.
Silver traded in London at $6.66 bid per troy ounce, down from $6.69 on Thursday.
