11 January 2005, 15:32  Dollar Down, Gold Up in Europe

The U.S. dollar was lower Tuesday morning against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices rose.
The euro was quoted at $1.3161, up from $1.3090 late Monday.
Other dollar rates compared with late Monday included: 103.91 Japanese yen, down from 104.50; 1.1743 Swiss francs, down from 1.1812, and 1.2167 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2246.
The British pound was quoted at $1.8793, up from $1.8732.
Gold traded in London at $422.55 bid per troy ounce, up from $419.60 on Monday. In Zurich the bid was $422.13, up from $419.80. Gold rose 80 U.S. cents in Hong Kong to close at $421.75.
Silver traded in London at $6.47 bid per troy ounce, up from $6.43 on Monday.
