6 December 2004, 13:42  Dollar Continues Downward Spiral in Europe

BERLIN - The U.S. dollar spiraled further downward Monday, hitting a new low against the euro, which neared the US$1.35 mark.
The euro hit $1.3453 in morning trading, edging above the previous record of $1.3452 it set on Friday.
Since September, the shared European currency has spiked from around $1.20 over persistent concerns about the U.S. trade and budget deficits.
It broke the $1.34 mark for the first time on Friday when U.S. employment data came in weaker than expected.
