21 December 2004, 16:10  U.S. Dollar Rises, Gold Falls

The U.S. dollar was mostly higher against other major currencies in European trading Tuesday. Gold prices fell.
The euro was quoted at $1.3394, down from $1.3396 late Monday.
Other U.S. dollar rates:
--104.19 Japanese yen, up from 103.93
--1.1492 Swiss francs, up from 1.1472
--1.2221 Canadian dollars, down from 1.2286
The British pound was quoted at $1.9353, down from $1.9484.
Gold traded in London at $441.85 bid per troy ounce, down from $443.20 late Monday.
In Zurich the bid price was $441.88, down from $442.88.
Gold fell 50 cents in Hong Kong to close at $441.25.
Silver opened in London at $6.81 bid per troy ounce, down from $6.88.
