20 December 2004, 09:45  Tokyo stocks flat in quiet pre-holiday trade

Tokyo stocks were largely flat on Monday as the Japanese market began to slip into holiday mode, but Sony lost ground on reports it would retreat from the plasma television business.
The Nikkei 225 average was up 0.1 per cent at 11,083.95 while the Topix index fell 0.1 per cent to 1,110.80.
Sony slipped 0.3 per cent to Y3,930 after the Nikkei newspaper reported over the weekend the group would cease producing plasma televisions and focus its flat-panel TV business on liquid crystal displays.
Pioneer, which supplies Sony with plasma panels, fell 2.4 per cent to Y1,992.
Sharp rose 0.3 per cent to Y1,642 after local media reported the company planned to build a new plant to make liquid crystal display panels for flat-screen televisions.
Sanyo fell 1.9 per cent to Y359 on reports factory damaged caused by an earthquake in October would hit profits./www.news.ft.com/
