NUREMBERG, Germany - The number of people in employment in Germany fell a seasonally-adjusted 1,000 in September from August, according to preliminary figures from the Labour Office.
However, the office said that since the beginning of the year, employment has risen by 107,000
The office confirmed jobless figures for November obtained earlier from sources. It said the number of jobless in Germany in November rose a seasonally adjusted 7,000 from October
Economists polled by AFX News had expected an adjusted rise of 13,000 in November
"Although the high oil price and the appreciation of the euro are braking the till-now dynamic growth in exports, the German economy is still on a growth path," the office said. But it added: "GDP growth of 0.1 pct in the third quarter was not enough to give the labour market any positive impulses." In west Germany, the adjusted number of jobless rose 3,000, while in eastern Germany it rose by 4,000
The adjusted unemployment rate was 10.8 pct, up from 10.7 pct in October
The unadjusted jobless total was 4,257,300 in November, up 50,800 from October, the office said
In west Germany, the unadjusted number of jobless people in November rose by 34,500 from October to 2,726,900, while in eastern Germany it rose by 16,300 to 1,530,400
The unadjusted unemployment rate in November was 10.3 pct compared with 10.1 pct in October (AFX)
