2 December 2004, 11:49  Sterling above $1.94 for first time since Sept '92

LONDON, Dec 2 - Sterling climbed to its highest level since September 1992 against the struggling dollar on Thursday, extending gains following the release of strong manufacturing data on Wednesday.
"The momentum is taking it higher rather than any new issues or fundamentals," said Tim Fox, market strategist at National Australia Bank.
The pound rose as high as $1.9431 by 0757 GMT.
The dollar was broadly weaker against most major currencies, also hitting its lowest level in almost five years against the yen.
