* Gold was firmer at the start of European trading on Thursday. Quoted at $449.60/450.10 at 0703 GMT, versus $448.75/449.50 an ounce last quoted in New York on Wednesday.
* Set fresh 16-1/4 year high of $449.75 in Asian trading. Seen volatile due to U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.
* Euro rises to $1.3187/90 versus $1.3175 late in New York and close to record high of $1.3190.
* Silver steady at $7.58/7.60, while platinum at $863.00/868.00 against $857.00/863.00.
* Palladium falls $1 to $213.00/218.00.
