24 November 2004, 10:07  Gold opens up in Europe, dollar near record low

* Gold slightly firmer at the start of European trading on Wednesday. Quoted at at $447.75/448.50 at 0702 GMT, versus $447.55/448.30 an ounce last quoted in New York on Tuesday.
* U.S. Thanksgiving holidays starting Thursday could temper enthusiasm this week to assault $450 after Tuesday's fresh 16-1/4-year high at $449.50 in London.
* Euro rises to $1.3100/03 versus $1.3078 late in New York and close to record high.
* Silver rises to $7.54/7.57 from $7.53/7.56, while platinum at $857.00/862.00 against $851.00/855.00.
* Palladium steady at $213.00/218.00.
