7 July 2004, 14:17  German May industrial orders rise 1.6% m/m

German industrial orders rose 1.6 percent in May from the previous month, a much bigger increase than economists had expected, after a gain of 1.9 percent in April, economy ministry data showed on Wednesday. Economists polled by had forecast May orders would increase by 0.2 percent . The ministry said May saw more large volume orders than usual for the month. A breakdown of the data showed foreign orders rose 4.1 percent, while domestic orders declined 0.6 percent. Capital goods orders rose 2.5 percent while orders for intermediate goods such as chemicals increased 0.6 percent. Orders for consumer goods advanced 2.0 percent, the ministry said.|||
