Current euro-dollar levels are not hurting eurozone exports, European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said in a newspaper interview published on Tuesday. "If we did not have the strong euro we would suffer much more from the high oil prices, not to mention that the euro guarantees stable exchange rates," he told Italian financial daily Il Sole 24 Ore. "At current levels compared to the dollar, it does not hurt exports," he said. Asked if an interest rate cut could help stimulate eurozone demand, Almunia said: "No, it is not a question of monetary policy because there is no tightness." |||
