20 April 2004, 16:57  Fed's McTeer: US economy now creating jobs

Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Robert McTeer said on Tuesday U.S. economic growth was picking and now clearly includes job growth. McTeer told Cable News Channel CNNfn that the benchmark Federal funds rate set by the Fed's monetary policy-making committee could be higher than its current 1 percent level and still remain accommodative. McTeer called the 0.5 percent rise in the March U.S. Consumer Price Index reported last week "disturbing," but said he hoped the jump was just a one-month aberration.|||
