12 March 2004, 09:35  Nikkei falls 3rd day, hit by Spain bombings

Tokyo's Nikkei average fell for a third straight session to close more than one percent lower on Friday after bombings in Spain raised security fears and prompted investors to lock in profits from banks and other recent gainers. Auto makers and other exporters wilted as investors feared possible attacks on the United States, Japan's biggest trade partner. Selling also hit airlines on concerns that travel could take a battering. The Nikkei average <.N225> lost 1.19 percent or 134.29 points to end at 11,162.75, down 3.25 percent from a 21-month closing high marked last Friday. The TOPIX index <.TOPX> of all first-section shares shed 1.16 percent to 1,107.37.////www..com
