1 March 2004, 17:38  US stocks rise at open on corporate profit hopes

U.S. stocks rose at Monday's opening bell as optimism over corporate profits and the global economy pushed European shares toward 19-month highs and Japanese shares to a 20-month high. The blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> advanced 22 points, or 0.21 percent, to 10,606. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 2 points, or 0.19 percent, to 1,147. The technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> climbed 6 points, or 0.33 percent, to 2,036.|||
