ROME, Feb 13 - The Italian economy was unchanged in the final three months of 2003 from the previous quarter, falling short of analysts' expectations of growth, preliminary data from national statistics agency Istat showed on Friday. The euro zone's third-largest economy grew 0.1 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2002, Istat said. Analysts polled by had expected gross domestic product (GDP) to grow a median 0.3 percent from the third quarter and 0.5 percent year-on-year. The figures showed that economic growth cooled in the final quarter after growing 0.5 percent in the third quarter. Istat said full-year GDP, adjusted for the number of working days, was up 0.4 percent, below the Treasury's target of 0.5 percent growth. Fourth-quarter growth in Italy was slower than in France, which reported a 0.5 percent rise in GDP on Thursday, and Germany where economic growth was 0.2 percent in the last three months of the year.
