11 February 2004, 10:14  German 2003 exports hit record, but surplus dips

BERLIN, Feb 11 - Germany's trade surplus with the rest of the world narrowed slightly in 2003 to 129.7 billion euros despite record exports as imports grew faster, Federal Statistics Office data showed on Wednesday. In December, Germany's trade balance was 10.4 billion euros, unchanged from November but up from 8.4 billion euros in the same year earlier month. The mid-range forecast of 14 analysts polled by was for a trade balance of 9.1 billion euros, with forecasts in a range from 8.0 to 12.2 billion euros .||
