5 January 2004, 17:50  US stocks jump on hopes for another up year

NEW YORK, Jan 5 - Stocks climbed at Monday's opening bell as investors returned in full force from the holidays and funneled money into the market on expectations of another up year for Wall Street. The blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 73 points, or 0.71 percent, to 10,483. The broad Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rallied 7 points, or 0.69 percent, at 1,116. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 18 points, or 0.93 percent, at 2,025.//
