22 January 2004, 09:16  Tanigaki, Fukui talk policy ahead of G7-source

TOKYO, Jan 22 - Japan's Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki and Bank of Japan Governor Toshihiko Fukui met early on Thursday to discuss economic and policy matters ahead of February's Group of Seven nations meeting, a BOJ source said. Details of the talks were not available.
Finance ministers and central bank chiefs of the G7 nations will meet in Florida on February 6-7 and are widely expected to discuss the current weakness of the dollar, which has alarmed Japanese and European officials. Tanigaki has called on the United States to take steps to fix its budget and trade deficits -- believed by many to be behind the dollar's weakness -- while Fukui has noted the danger a strong yen could pose to Japan's export-led economic recovery.//
