21 January 2004, 11:04  IMF's Krueger: Global growth to exceed expectations

PUNE, India, Jan 21 - The global economy will expand more than earlier expected, the International Monetary Fund's top policy-maker said on Wednesday. Anne Krueger, the IMF's first deputy managing director, also said the downside risks to global economic growth have fallen, but were not totally eliminated. "The global economy will expand better than we had expected. Our formal review will be done in April," Krueger told a seminar arranged by the National Institute of Bank Management. "Downside risks have been reduced... but have not been totally eliminated." Protectionism and the failure of the World Trade Organisation's Doha round of talks posed serious risks to global growth, she said.//
