14 January 2004, 17:39 Euro falls vs dollar after US trade gap data
NEW YORK, Jan 14 - The euro fell against the dollar on Wednesday, deepening its losses after a report showed a surprisingly narrow U.S. trade gap.
The euro also broadened its retreat falling 1 percent versus the yen.
The U.S. international trade deficit narrowed to a deficit of $38.01 billion in November, compared with economists' consensus estimates for a deficit of $42.0 billion.
Early morning in New York, the euro fell to session lows around $1.2630, down steeply from about $1.2690 shortly prior to the report's release and down about 1 percent on the day.
The dollar also gained against some other major rivals, rising to 1.2352 Swiss francs against the Swiss franc , from about 1.2296 francs prior to the U.S. trade report//
