8 December 2003, 10:45  OPEC chief sees Q2 surplus, possible Feb output cut

DOHA, Dec 8 - OPEC President Abdullah al-Attiyah said on Monday he expects an oil surplus of 2.5 million barrels per day (bpd) during the second quarter of 2004 which could prompt the cartel to cut supplies. "If we need a cut, we will do it," Attiyah, also Qatari oil minister, told reporters on the sidelines of an energy conference. Asked whether the producer group would reduce supplies when it meets on February 10 in Algiers, he said "maybe". The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries agreed at a meeting in Vienna on December 4 to keep oil output limits unchanged at 24.5 million bpd||
