22 December 2003, 11:49  Italy Dec business confidence falls to 91.2 - ISAE

ROME, Dec 22 - Italian business morale slumped in December after a slight rise the month before, with confidence in the short-term outlook for production weighing, research body ISAE said on Monday. ISAE's business confidence index, based on a survey of 4,000 firms, fell to a seasonally-adjusted 91.2 in December from a revised 94 in November. November was previously reported at 94.4. The drop in morale was felt across the board in the intermediate and investment goods sectors as well as among consumer goods firms, ISAE said. "The short-term forecasts are still characterised by uncertainty," the government-funded think-tank said in a statement. "Short-term expectations for production resumed a decline." Still, confidence in Italy's economic outlook improved and confidence among export companies stabilised, the group said.//
