17 December 2003, 17:38  US stocks open down,; investors focus on earnings

NEW YORK, Dec 17 - U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday as investors digested the previous session's heady run-up in the Dow and sifted through a flurry of earnings reports. The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 17.32 points, or 0.17 percent, at 10,112.24. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was was down 1.15 points, or 0.11 percent, at 1,073.98. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 3.85 points, or 0.2 percent, at 1,920.44.//
