20 November 2003, 09:28  Tokyo stocks rise more than 2%

TOKYO, Nov 20 - Tokyo stocks rose more than two percent by late afternoon on Thursday on a recovery in U.S. stocks, but rises were capped as the dollar dipped below 109 yen, prompting investors to sell tech shares like Toshiba Corp. Investors also bought issues on bargain-hunting after Wednesday's falls. NTT DoCoMo Inc <9437.T>, one of the largest issues by market cap on the Tokyo bourse, rose 4.87 percent at 237,000, recouping some of its 5.4 percent loss on Wednesday. As of 0519 GMT, the Nikkei average <.N225> was up 2.04 percent at 9,811.20. The benchmark index had fallen 2.85 percent on Wednesday to 9,614.60, its lowest close since August 12. The broad TOPIX index <.TOPX> was up 1.70 percent at 969.41.//
