28 October 2003, 17:51  US consumer confidence seen rising to 79.5 in Oct

NEW YORK, Oct 28 - U.S. consumer confidence likely recovered some ground in October as Americans grew hopeful that the labor market could be on the verge of recovery. According to a poll, median analyst forecasts predict a rise in the Conference Board's confidence index to 79.5 in October from 76.8 in September. Still, such an improvement would simply take the index back near its April levels, a testament to the toll that persistent unemployment has taken on confidence in the past few months. The Conference Board is expected to release its confidence report at 10 a.m. (1500 GMT) on Tuesday//
