21 October 2003, 13:36  UK house prices rise in September: RICS

House prices in Britain rose again in the three months to September, as demand improved amid rising hopes for the economy. In its latest monthly survey, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) found that house prices in England and Wales rose at their fastest pace since December 2002. It said that 34pc more surveyors reported a rise in house prices rather than a decline in the three months to September. That is up from a revised 9pc in August, which was the first increase since January. "Market uncertainty seen earlier in the year has given way to firmer conditions, spurred on by very low interest rates and steady employment conditions," RICS said. It added that the recovery in demand and sales over recent months has placed further pressure on the market and led to a decline in the stock of unsold homes. In addition, RICS said new buyer enquiries grew at their fastest rate in four years on the low interest rate environment.//www.fxcentre.com
