9 September 2003, 10:22  German Aug wholesale prices +0.4% m/m

BERLIN, Sept 9 - German wholesale prices rose 0.4 percent month-on-month in August, data from the Federal Statistics Office showed on Tuesday. Year-on-year, prices were up 0.8 percent. In July, wholesale prices had fallen 0.2 percent month-on-month, with a rise of 0.4 percent on the year. Excluding oil, prices rose 0.3 percent month-on-month and were up 0.5 percent year-on-year. That compares with a July fall of 0.4 percent month-on-month and a rise of 0.1 percent year-on-year.
The Office said there were strong rises in prices of citrus fruit, which rose 18.8 percent, fish and fish products, which were up 16.1 percent, grain, up 13.3 percent, potatoes up 9.5 percent, and apples which rose 6.2 percent and diesel fuel which was up 4.8 percent year on year. There were falls in prices for bananas, down 18 percent, live pigs down 9.2 percent, cement, down 7.9 percent, pork down 5.1 percent and poultry meat, down 4.7 percent year on year.//
