29 September 2003, 10:18  Japan's Nikkei ends at 1-month low, exporters hit

TOKYO, Sept 29 - Japan's Nikkei stock average ended at a one-month low on Monday, as investers sold Honda Motor Co <7267.T> and other exporters on weakness on Wall Street and concerns about the persistently strong yen. Forecast revisions by Sumitomo Chemical Co <4005.T> and others also pressured basic materials makers, but the market was protected against further falls as some investors took a wait-and-see attitude ahead of a slew of economic data this week. The Nikkei <.N225> ended down 0.86 percent at 10,229.57, its lowest close since August 28. The broader TOPIX index <.TOPX> was down 1.00 percent at 1,010.82. Honda, Japan's second-biggest auto maker, lost 4.70 percent to 4,460 yen, as the yen firmed to around 111.2 per dollar , not far off last week's three-year high of 110.91.//
