25 July 2003, 12:15  Yen, euro soft against dollar in Europe

LONDON, July 25 - The yen fell towards a three-week low against the dollar and stood weaker on the euro on Friday after a slip in Tokyo stocks fuelled concerns about Japan's recovery prospects. The euro was off its three-week high on the dollar set in the previous session as better than expected U.S. jobless claims data buoyed the greenback across the board.
By 0640 GMT the yen had fallen a third of a percent to 119.30 per dollar . Against the euro it also was on the weaker side at 136.62 compared with 136.46 on Thursday. The euro was a touch softer on the day against the dollar at $1.1456 . No major data is due out of the United States on Friday, leaving investors pondering about the outlook for the world's biggest economy in relatively thin markets. Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President Alfred Broaddus is due to speak on the current economic situation at 1500 GMT.//
