21 July 2003, 17:52  UK economy shows only slight rally in Q2

The British economy remains in the doldrums, with only a slight rally in the past few months, a new survey shows. Carried out by the British Chambers of Commerce, it shows that manufacturing and services showed just modest improvement in the second quarter. The body's Quarterly Economic Survey also reports that many areas of the economy are in a worse state than last year.
Strong competition from abroad and the strength of sterling against the euro are given as reasons. The BCC said: "Disappointing and worrying is how we would describe these results." ///www.fxcentre.com
