3 April 2003, 14:30  Powell meets EU on post-war rebuilding

US Secretary of State Colin Powell will insist to EU foreign ministers today that the United States dominate Iraq after the war there. He is to meet the foreign ministers of France, Germany and Russia in Brussels today, and also to attend what is being described as a "joint session" of EU and NATO foreign ministers. The talks are expected to cover plans for the reconstruction of Iraq after the war.
Growing concern is reported from some countries over how works on reconstruction will be shared out. Powell is on the record as saying that the US wants "significant dominating control" over Iraq. But countries opposing the war say this would reward those who started it. German foreign minister Joschka Fischer has said, meanwhile, that he hopes the Saddam regime "will collapse as soon as possible". //www.fxcentre.com
