20 March 2003, 12:20   Japan to Take `Appropriate Action' on Currency, Shiokawa Says

Tokyo, March 20 (Bloomberg) -- Japanese Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa said the government will closely communicate with other nations and take ``decisive action'' in currency markets if necessary after the U.S. attack on Iraq. ``We will take decisive action if there are rapid movements in the currency market,'' Shiokawa said in a statement. ``We will have close communication with our counterparts in other nations.'' Shiokawa also said the government and the central bank will work together to assure liquidity.
