Tokyo, Feb. 18 (Bloomberg) -- The Japanese government will say the economy is flat in its February monthly report, keeping its evaluation unchanged from January, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said, citing a draft of the report.
The Cabinet Office will say that the economy ``remains weak with signs of recovery in some areas,'' the newspaper said. The report, to be released tomorrow, will say exports are flat and corporate earnings have improved, according to the newspaper.
The government lowered its assessment of the economy three straight months to January. The economy grew 0.5 percent in the fourth quarter, buoyed by exports, government figures on Friday showed.
Yesterday, the Bank of Japan in its monthly report said the economy has stalled as exports and industrial production level off. It kept its assessment unchanged for a third month.
