8 January 2003, 16:55  Dollar rose, gold down in Europe

/www.fxserver.com/ LONDON (AP) -- The U.S. dollar rose Wednesday against other major currencies in European trading. Gold prices fell.
The euro was quoted at $1.0404, down from $1.0430 Tuesday.
Other dollar rates compared with late Tuesday included: 120.25 Japanese yen, up from 120.07; 1.4016 Swiss francs, up from 1.3957, and 1.5617 Canadian dollars, up from 1.5610.
The British pound was quoted at $1.6005, down from $1.6072.
Gold traded in London at $346.75 bid per troy ounce, down from $347.40 on Tuesday. In Zurich the bid was $346.43, down from $348.85.
Gold closed at $347.00 an ounce in Hong Kong, down $2.25 from Tuesday's close.
Silver traded in London at $4.79 bid per troy ounce, down from $4.80.
