11 December 2002, 09:34  EU admits its economy is "anaemic"

The European Commission says 2002 was marked by "anaemic" euro zone growth in domestic demand and "uncomfortably high" core inflation. In its 2002 review of the EU economy, the commission said three years of buoyant growth in the euro zone until 2000 has given way to a period of sluggish growth since 2001. EU economic and monetary affairs commissioner Pedro Solbes called for implementation of structural reforms to boost economic growth. //www.fxcentre.com
